Reuters, Amsterdam, May 19 In order to avoid becoming a bottleneck for the upcoming generations of artificial intelligence, the industry must move towards reconfigurable chip architectures, according to the CEO of Imec, one of the leading semiconductor R&D companies in the world.

In a statement viewed by Reuters before it was published, CEO Luc Van den Hove stated that the current strategy of creating specialised, raw-power-focused processors is being outpaced by the rapid growth of AI algorithms, which will result in significant disadvantages in terms of energy, cost, and hardware development speed.
