History Gazipur

 One of the strongholds of the Buddhist Pala Empire was the ancient city of Dholsamudra in modern-day Gazipur. Toke and Ekdala forts were constructed in the sixth century and were still in use during the Mughal Period. With the construction of additional forts like that of Karnapur and the excavation of the 

Twin Ponds in 1045, the area came to be recognized as a strategic location. The Chandalas had their headquarters in Chinashkhania, and Shishu Pal had his capital in the present-day Sreepur, the ruins of which are still visible. In Dardaria, a new fort was constructed in 1200.
